Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders have come down heavily on the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government after the brutal murder of prominent businessman Gopal Khemka near Patna’s Gandhi Maidan on July 4, alleging a complete collapse of law and order in the state.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav lashed out at the administration, questioning why the state of lawlessness wasn’t being called “jungle raj.”
“A businessman is shot dead just a few steps from a police station. But we still can’t call it jungle raj? Because this is what media and image management does,” Yadav posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Echoing the outrage, RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari demanded Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s resignation, saying, “Bihar has descended into a state of lawlessness… Only this government’s exit can bring relief to the people.”
In response, Bihar Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by the Patna Central Superintendent of Police to investigate the killing. Forensic experts were also deployed at the crime scene early Saturday.
SP Diksha, speaking to ANI, said, “At around 11 pm on July 4, we received information that Gopal Khemka was shot in the southern part of Gandhi Maidan. One bullet and one shell have been recovered. The investigation is underway.”
The incident has sparked widespread criticism from the opposition, with mounting pressure on the state government to address the rising concerns over public safety and governance.
